Office of Research and Sponsored Programs Announces Grant Recipients

The 91短视频 Office of Research and Sponsored Programs announced that 11 professors would be receiving grants, including two for more than $1 million, for various projects and programming. According to Dr. Jeffery Seitz, interim associate vice president of ORSP, recipients were awarded the grants due to the high quality of their proposals, relevance of each project's goal and the confidence that each sponsor has in the recipient’s ability to complete the proposed work.

The recipients include:

Dr. Kim Geron, Department of Political Science, and Dr. Meiling Wu, Department of Modern Languages and Literature

Dr. Geron and Dr. Wu received a $1.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education for a project entitled “Transfer Asian Pacific American Student Success.”

Dr. Holly Vugia, Department of Social Work

Vugia received a $1.1 million grant from UC Berkeley for a project entitled “Title IV-E-Social Work Training Program.” She also earned a $305,000 grant from UC Berkeley for a project entitled “CalSWEC II Mental Health Educational Stipend Program Social Work 2016-2017.” 

Dr. Saeid Motavalli, Department of Engineering

Motavalli received a $190,000 grant from MESA Statewide Office for a project entitled “CSUEB MESA program 2016-2017.” He also receiveda $10,421 grant from the Irene S. Scully Family Foundation for a project entitled CSUEB MESA at Peres Elementary School, Richmond 2017." 

Dr. Christian Gaedicke, Department of Engineering and Dr. Farzad Shahbodaghlou 

Gaedicke and Shahbodaghlou received a $140,000 grant from Chevron USA for a project entitled "Discover Engineering 2016:  West Contra Costa County. 

Bruce Simon, Department of Institute for STEM education

Simon received a $100,000 grant from the Contra Costa County Office of Education for his project entitled “Diablo Gateways to Innovation 2016-2017.”

Dr. Diane Mukerjee, Department of Teacher Education

Mukerjee received a $50,000 grant from California State University, Long Beach, for a project entitled “CSUEB Linked Learning Partnership 2016-2017.”

Dr. Mitchell Craig, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences

Craig received a $49,331 grant from the U.S. Geological survey for a project entitled "Earthquake hazard assessment in the Sacramento-San Joaquin delta using seismic surface wave and reflection methods.

Dr. Mike Massey, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences

Massey received a $47,323 grant from the USDA-Agricultural Research Service-Northwest Irrigation and Soils Research department for a project entitled “Phosphorous capture, recycling and utilization for sustainable agriculture and a clean environment using A1/organic composite water treatment residuals.”

Dr. Danika Leduc, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Dr. Julia Olkin, Department of Mathematics

Leduc and Olkin both received $43,340 grants from the University of California, Berkeley, Lawrence Hall of Science for a project entitled “Transforming College Teaching: Statewide implementation of the faculty learning program to improve STEM Undergraduate teaching and learning.”

Dr. Ehsan Kamalinejad, Department of Mathematics

Kamalinejad received a $35,000 grant from Fresno State University for a project entitled “Collaborative Proposal: Faculty and Undergraduate Research Student Teams.

Dr. Jiaofei Zhong, Department of Mathematics

Zhong received a $35,000 grant from Fresno State University for a project called “Collaborative Research: Faculty and Undergraduate Research Student Teams.” In addition Zhong received a $30,468 grant from San Jose State University for a project entitled “Collaborative Research: A Technology Pathway Program in Data Technology and Applications.”

Dr. Julie Glass, Department of Mathematics 

Glass received a $22,000 grant from Peralta Community College Foundation for a project entitled "Bridging the Gap Implementation." 

Dr. Meiling Wu, Department of Modern Languages and Literatures

Wu received a $1,000 grant for a project entitled “Japanese Teaching Material Purchase Grant.”
