Spring brimming with fine arts programs

• “Forgotten Contributions of the Bay Area Chinese” and “Life in the Ice Age” continue through June 12 (closed March 23-31, May 25) in the C.E. Smith Museum of Anthropology, MI 4047. The exhibitions are open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is free. Please call in advance to make arrangements for group visits.
• The “Annual BFA Exhibition” and the continuing “Pre-Columbian Sculpture” will open in the University Art Gallery at a reception from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 1. The exhibitions will be open Monday-Thursday, April 2-23, 12:30-3:30 p.m.
• “East Bay Singers with Las Positas College Chamber Choir,” Buddy James and Robert Lappa, conductors, will perform Saturday, April 4, 8 p.m., at the Old Mission San Jose (43300 Mission Blvd., Fremont). • “24th Annual CSUEB Jazz Festival Concert,” featuring 2009 Grammy award winner Jim McNeely, composer/pianist, with the CSUEB Jazz Ensemble, Johannes Wallmann, director, will perform Friday, April 17 at 8 p.m. in the University Theatre. • “The Giver” - a Theatre for Youth production, age appropriate for 5th grade and up, will perform Fridays, May 1 and 8 at 7 p.m., and Saturdays, May 2 and 9 at 3 and 7 p.m. in the University Theatre. Tickets are $8 general, $6 youth/seniors/alumni, $4 children/CSUEB students, and $20 family (up to two adults and two children). • “Orcheste dB” by the New Music Ensemble, Rafael Hernandez, director, will perform Sunday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. in MB1055. Admission is free.
• “3rd Annual CSUEB Trumpet Fest” featuring the CSUEB Trumpet Ensemble, Jeff Biancalana, director, will perform Tuesday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m. in MB1055. Admission is free.
• “Chamber Winds Recital,” Wesley J. Broadnax, conductor, will perform Thursday, May 14 at noon in MB 1055. Admission is free.
• “7th Annual Glenn Glasow Memorial Concert” with works by CSUEB alumni and faculty composers will perform Monday, May 18 at 8 p.m. in MB 1055. Admission is free.
• “Annual Student Juried Exhibition” and “Pre-Columbian Sculpture” will open with a reception Tuesday, May 19 from 5-87 p.m. in A&E. The exhibitions will continue Monday-Thursday, May 20-June 4 (closed May 25) from 12:30-3:30 p.m.
• “CSUEB Jazz Imrov Ensembles,” Johannes Wallmann and Dann Zinn, directors, will perform Wednesday, May 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Studio Theatre. Admission will be free.
• “Trombone Ensemble Recital,” David Ridge, director, will perform Thursday, May 21 at noon in MB1055. Admission is free.
• “Pilipino Culture Night” will be presented Friday, May 22 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 23 at 6 p.m. in the University Theatre. Tickets are $12 presold by the Pilipino American Student Association (PASA@csueastbay.edu), or $15 at the door.
• “Guitar Ensemble Recital,” Marc Teicholz, director, will perform Tuesday, May 26 at noon in MB 1055. Admission is free.
• “Jazz Band, Jazz Workshop, and Jazz Ensemble Concert,” Johannes Wallmann and Dann Zinn, directors, will perform Tuesday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theatre. • “Performance Fusion,” a showcase of advanced student work will perform two weekends. Program A will be Friday-Saturday, May 29-30 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 31 at 2 p.m. Program B will be Friday-Saturday, June 5-6 at 8 p.m. in the University Theatre.
