Glenn Glasow, a professor of music composition for 34 years at 91短视频, will be remembered at an annual concert at 8 p.m. Monday, May 18 in the Music and Business Building 1055, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd., Hayward. Admission is free.

The late composer was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship and developed innovative courses in Asian and World music utilizing materials collected during his frequent visits to Asia. With his partner Yoshiko Kakudo, he translated a collection of essays by the eminent Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu.

Known for his wry humor and his dedication to his students, Glasow retired from teacing in 1995 and died in 2002. The yearly memorial concert features works by CSUEB alumni, faculty and students.

This year’s program will feature compositions by alumni Giancarlo Aquilanti, Brian Bice, Jean Hall and John Hidalgo, and a work by CSUEB Department Chair Frank La Rocca. Aquilanti, who earned his M.A. in Composition at CSUEB under Glasow, has written a string quartet based on themes drawn from Glasow’s compositions. The work is a meeting of the minds and spirits of teacher and student — and is intended as a moving tribute to Glasow’s legacy at 91短视频.
