TURLOCK, Calif. - The Pioneers won their first CCAA game of the season with three runs in the ninth inning to defeat Stanislaus State 7-4 on Feb. 28.
East Bay’s John Howard opened the ninth inning with a single. After one was out, Jake Walter walked moving pinch runner James McShane to second. With two outs, Stephen Gatehouse, the Pioneers leading hitter with a .431 batting average, singled to drive in McShane. Alex Anicich followed with a base hit to score Walter. Gatehouse scored on a balk.
The Pioneers trailed 4-0 before scoring three runs in the sixth inning highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Levi Josewski. East Bay tied the game in the eighth on a Josewski RBI single.
Reliever Paul Jinkens hurled five innings of scoreless baseball allowing only two hits and recording four strikeouts to pick his first victory of the season. Josewski had three RBI while Gatehouse drove in a pair of runs. Devin Grigg was 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored.
For the second straight game, Corey Conflenti homered for Cal State Stanislaus. He was 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI.
The second game was called after six innings due to darkness. Cal State Stanislaus was leading 11-6.
The two teams will resume the second game and play the final contest of the four-game series on March 1 at 91短视频. The suspended game will begin at 1 p.m.
