Pioneers Edged by Chico State in Tough Loss

CHICO, Calif. - The Pioneer men's basketball team played hard in a 71-67 defeat to Chico State on Feb. 12.
Chico State never trailed in the first half and led by as many as 14 points, 31-17 with 6:49 remaining.
A three-point play by the Pioneers Jacob Noisat tied the game 55-55 with 7:04 left. The contest remained tied 57-57 with 5:32 left on a jumper by East Bay’s Mark Samuels.
Chico State took the lead for good 59-57 with 5:14 remaining on a pair of free throws by Terence Pellum. Saeed Gatson's layup with 1:01 remaining cut the Wildcats lead to 64-63 with 1:01 remaining. Chico State went on a 7-4 run to earn the hard-earned victory.
Jon Baird scored a career-high 30 points for Chico State. The Pioneers had three players scored in double figures led by Samuels with 18 points. Jawaan Rubin and Jacob Noisat scored 13 and 12 points respectively. Noisat completed a double-double with 13 rebounds.
Chico State is now 9-8 in the CCAA and 13-9 overall. Cal State East Bay stands at 2-14 in CCAA play and 5-16 for the season.
