Pioneers Sweep Cal State Monterey Bay in Doubleheader Action

SEASIDE, Calif. - The Pioneer bats remained hot following a doubleheader sweep over host Cal State Monterey Bay 12-6 and 11-6 on April 2.

East Bay, which has scored 54 runs in its last five games, jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the third inning. Charlie Sharrer ignited the four-run, third inning with a two-run homer. Sharrer added a run scoring double in the fifth. Josh Rush hit a two-run home in the seventh to give the Pioneers a 9-3 lead.

Cal State Monterey Bay rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to trail 9-6. The Pioneers scored three insurance runs in the ninth highlighted by a two-run single by Nick McManus.

Sharrer was 3-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBIs while McManus was 4-for-6 with four runs batted in. East Bay hurler Paul Jinkens improved to 3-2 for the season as he allowed five runs and recorded five strikeouts in seven innings.

In the second game, the Pioneers scored four runs in the second on a two-run single by Alex Anicich and a two-run double by McManus.

With the score tied 6-6 after three, the Pioneers scored five runs in the following three innings. Devin Grigg had a two-run double in fourth while McManus hit a run-scoring single in the fifth inning.

The Pioneers added two more runs in the sixth.  Sharrer doubled to score Grigg and later came home on a Jeff Croft single. Croft, Anicich, and McManus all had three for the Pioneers.

Pitcher Matt McCormick picked up the win while reliever Keith Schwecke hurled three hitless innings with three strikeouts to earn his first save of the season.

With the two victories, the Pioneers are 8-18 in CCAA play and 13-21-1 overall.

The two teams will conclude the four-game series with a doubleheader on April 3 at 91短视频. The first pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
