Pioneers To Host No. 17 UCSD for Senior Day at Pioneer Pool

HAYWARD, Calif. - The 91短视频 women's water polo team will play its final home game of the season on Friday, meeting No. 17 UC San Diego on Senior Day before traveling to Fresno to take on Fresno Pacific and a Fresno masters team on Saturday. The Pioneers (20-9, 9-1 WWPA) are looking to post their third win of the season over a nationally-ranked team after honoring seniors Lauren Merrill, Jenna Casady, Brianna Finney and Lauren Griffin.
East Bay is coming off a 2-0 weekend that saw it edge Concordia, 12-11, before topping conference opponent Cal State Monterey Bay, 11-9, in Seaside. The win over the CSUMB allowed the Pioneers to exact revenge on the Otters, who handed East Bay its only conference loss earlier this season. The victories also gave 91短视频 20 wins on the year, making them the first squad in the WWPA to reach that plateau.
Junior driver Tristan Kennedy-Donohue comes into the weekend as the reigning WWPA Player of the Week after notching six goals, four assists and four steals in the two games last week. Kennedy-Donohue scored four goals in the win over the Otters, including the game winner for CSUEB. Meanwhile, leading scorer and freshman utility Claire Pierce is averaging 2.5 goals per game and has notched 72 scores on the year, which is good for third in the NCAA.
Junior two meter Liz Warren and Casady join Pierce among the top 25 scorers in the country with 57 and 43 goals, respectively. Casady is also leading the nation in assists with 66 on the year, putting her just four away from matching the CSUEB single-season record she set last season and making her the Pioneers' all-time leader in assists with 136. Pierce, Warren and Casady have combined to score nearly half of East Bay's goals this season. In goal, Merrill has posted 103 saves, eight assists and 17 steals on the year.
The 17th-ranked Tritons (13-14, 5-1) come into tomorrow's meeting on a six-game winning streak which includes victories over three ranked teams. UCSD is led by sophomore two meter Kirsten Bates' 49 goals on the year, which rank 16th in the NCAA. Senior Audra Bloom and junior Hanalei Crowell have added 38 and 30 goals, respectively, while senior Markayla Quane has made 246 saves in goal for the Tritons.
Following Senior Day festivities in Hayward, the Pioneers will travel to Fresno to meet Fresno Pacific for the second time this season. The Sunbirds come into the weekend with a 7-24 overall record and have lost three of their last five matches. In the teams' first meeting this season, East Bay came away with a 19-4 victory at Pioneer Pool.
The Pioneers and Tritons are set to get underway on Friday at 5 p.m. at Pioneer Pool, with Senior Day festivities beginning prior to the match. East Bay and FPU will meet at Clovis East High School at 1 p.m., followed by the match with the Fresno masters club at 3:30 p.m.
