Dating hell, love, survival dramatized by senior theatre and dance students

Dating hell, lust, love and survival, the topics of lifelong angst are also the topics of the 2010 Performance Fusion, the theatre and dance students' collection of senior projects.
The six plays and a dance piece, created, directed, and performed by students, will be presented in the University Theatre, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd., Hayward, at 8 p.m. May 28 and 29 and June 4 and 5; and at 2 p.m. June 6.
Projects featured in the collection, including three original works, are: "Sure Thing," by David Ives and directed by Grace Khasar, deals with what would happen if you could reset a first meeting between potential lovers every time one of them made a misstep; "The Land of Enigma," written and directed by Wakana Hirose, is a comedy of culture clash in which an American paper pusher is transferred to Japan and finds himself in a nightmare of ancient Asian rituals; "Check Please," written by Jonathan Rand and directed by Louis Ha, covers virtually everything that can go wrong on a blind date, and does; "Love and Lust," an original dance piece, choreographed by Amy LaFaille, explores the passions that drive a young woman's choices; "Still Standing," written and directed by Roger Robinson, is an autobiographical play about the writer's mother's struggle with drug addiction and poverty; "Me and ... ," written and directed by Shah Noori, looks at two roommates –– and former lovers –– in a race to be the first in a new relationship; "The Interrogation," written by Murphy Guyer and directed by Tyrone Lewis, illustrates that breaking up is hard to do.
