Senior outfielder and pitcher Devin Grigg was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball Draft.

91短视频 baseball player Devin Grigg has been selected in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Minnesota Twins. Grigg, a second-team All-CCAA selection as a senior in 2010, was the 525th overall pick and the Pioneers' first draftee since Ray Stokes in 2006.
"This is a great opportunity for Devin," 91短视频 Head Baseball Coach Dirk Morrison said. "To become a major league player is something Devin always wanted to do. He is very athletic and fits the baseball profile."
The Alameda native started all but two games for East Bay this season, seeing most of his action in centerfield, while also serving as the Pioneers' top closer. Grigg hit .289 on the year, finishing the season with 43 runs and 33 runs batted in, good for second and third on the squad, respectively. On the mound, he made 14 appearances, posting a 2.89 ERA while going 5-1 and collecting a team-high five saves.
"After pitching for us in critical situations this season, Devin has the tools to be a quality pitcher at the major league level," Morrison said. "He has a lot of upside to his game."
A transfer from Chabot College, Grigg helped guide 91短视频 to a 23-29-1 overall record and an eighth-place finish in its first year in the CCAA. His 25 stolen bases led the conference, while his five saves ranked fifth in the league.
Grigg is the eighth player in program history to be picked in the MLB Draft, garnering the third-highest pick ever. Only Robert Healy, the 328th pick (13th round) in 1977 by the New York Mets, and Stokes, who was picked 483rd (16th round) by the San Diego Padres, have gone earlier in the draft.
The senior was one of six conference players selected on the second day of the draft. Grigg joined Sonoma State's Scott Alexander (6th round, Kansas City Royals), Tillman Pugh (15th round, New York Mets) and Tyler Hess (19th round, Atlanta Braves), Cal State LA's Jesus Campos (24th round, LA Dodgers) and Cal State San Bernardino's Brandon Cunniff (27th round, Florida Marlins) as the conference representatives on day two of the draft. Alexander, a left-handed pitcher, was the first CCAA and Division II West Region player to be selected in this year’s draft.
The MLB Draft is in its 45th year, with high school seniors, community college and four-year college and university players being selected throughout the 50-round process. The 2010 draft will conclude on Wednesday and can be tracked online at .
