Five vie for three sanitary district seats
- September 27, 2010
Five candidates are vying for three seats on the Oro Loma Sanitary District board on the Nov. 2 ballot.
All three incumbents -- Tim Becker, Howard Kerr and Frank Sidari -- are seeking to retain their seats, but will have to hold off a challenge from former San Leandro Mayor Shelia Young, as well as Larry Johnson, a former civil engineer.
The Oro Loma Sanitary District provides wastewater collection and treatment services, and residential and commercial solid waste and recycling services to customers in Ashland, Cherryland, Fairview, San Leandro and San Lorenzo, and parts of Castro Valley and Hayward.
Its board typically does not see much turnover. Two of the three incumbents are longtime members. Kerr has had his seat since 1986. Sidari has been on the board since 1994. In addition, the two directors not up for re-election joined the board in 1992.
