Cal State East Bay suffers first defeat of the season at San Francisco State

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The 91短视频 volleyball team suffered their first defeat of the season to San Francisco State, 3-1, on Friday night. With the defeat, by scores of 25-20,17-25, 20-25 and 23-25, East Bay is now 3-1 in CCAA play and 8-1 overall.
East Bay led 16-14 in the first set on a Roxanne Neely ace. A kill by freshman Mona Goudarzian increased the Pioneers lead to 24-16. East Bay won the first set on a San Francisco attack error.
The Gators never trailed in the second set and tied the match on a kill by Halimah Oswald.
In the third set, the Pioneers led 10-9. San Francisco State went on a 10-4 run to take a19-14 advantage. East Bay narrowed the gap to 22-20 only to see San Francisco State score three unanswered points including an ace by Sarah Kurfess to win the set.
The Gators (1-2CCAA, 4-4) maintained their momentum in the fourth set as they jumped out to a13-4 lead. The Pioneers rallied to tie the set 23-23 on a kill by Brianna Bryant. Lauren Walsh's kill followed by a Pioneer attack error enabled the Gators to win the set and send East Bay to its first setback of the season and in CCAA play.
Allen was the Pioneers leading hitter with nine kills. Kitona Offord came off the bench to record five kills and hit for a .571 percentage. K.C. Walsh had 20 assists while Lauren Massa was solid on defense with 18 digs.
San Francisco State, with 57 kills for the match, had four players with 10 or more attacks. Walsh led the Gators offensive attack with 16 kills followed by Sarah Lewis and Oswald with 12 and 11 respectively. Robyn Hall had 10 kills. Sarah Kurfess recorded 24 digs.
The Pioneers will play at Cal State Monterey Bay on Sept. 18. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
