With just three weeks left in the Pioneer men's and women's soccer seasons, this week marks the final four-game home weekend for the two teams as they host Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State, both leaders in the CCAA North. 91短视频 volleyball hits the road to take on Humboldt State and Sonoma State to open the second half of the CCAA season. Meanwhile, the Pioneer cross country teams will run their final local collegiate race of the season in Sunnyvale at the Bronco Invitational.

East Bay Open Second Half on the Road: The 91短视频 volleyball team hits the road to kick off the second half of the conference season on the road this weekend, traveling to Humboldt State on Friday and Sonoma State on Saturday. The Pioneers (12-4, 7-4 CCAA) will look to build on their big upset of then-No. 4 Cal State San Bernardino last week and have won four of their last five since dropping three straight in the middle of September.
Last Week: 91短视频 is coming off a split weekend that saw it fall to Cal Poly Pomona in four sets before bouncing back to upset then-No. 4 Cal State San Bernardino in a thrilling five-set victory. The Pioneers saw senior Roxanne Neely post a double-double with 16 kills and 25 assists while dropping in three service aces. Junior Jit Athwal and freshman Katie Allen added 15 and 13 kills apiece, respectively. The loss was CSUSB’s first CCAA defeat of the season and first five-set match in conference play since 2008. The win moved the Pioneers up two spots in the national rankings to No. 23 and maintained their third-place standing in the conference standings.
Looking Ahead: Following this weekend’s trip, 91短视频 returns home for its longest and final homestand of the season, spanning five matches and two weeks. The Pioneers will play host to three of the four conference teams that have defeated them this season, beginning with Cal State Monterey Bay on Oct. 22, followed by San Francisco State on Oct. 23 and a rematch with UC San Diego on Oct. 27.
Moving Up the Ranks: After their dramatic five-set victory over then-No. 4 Cal State San Bernardino last weekend, the Pioneers are making their way up the AVCA National Rankings again, moving into the No. 23 slot in this week’s poll, their highest ranking since returning to Division II last season. Cal State East Bay has now been ranked in the polls three times this season and has posted a pair of wins over nationally ranked opponents.
Handling Humboldt State: The Jacks enter Friday’s matchup with a 1-14 record overall and a 1-10 mark in CCAA play. HSU fell to 91短视频 in Hayward to open the conference season, battling it out for four sets in the loss. The Jacks hold the all-time advantage 37-11 and will be looking to improve on last year’s sweep by the Pioneers.
Sizing Up the Seawolves: Saturday’s matchup with 91短视频 could prove to be a battle for third place in the CCAA, as Sonoma State enters the weekend tied with the Pioneers with a 7-4 conference mark. The Seawolves are coming off a split weekend capped with a loss to Cal State LA, but have won four of their last five matches. SSU fell to CSUEB in four sets in the teams’ first meeting this season.

Pioneers Set to Close Out North Division Competition: The 91短视频 men’s soccer team returns home to complete its North Division schedule for the 2010 season this weekend against Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State. The Pioneers will meet the Warriors on Friday night at 7 p.m. before taking on the North-leading and 14th-ranked Wildcats on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium. 91短视频 is looking to bounce back from four straight losses.
Last Time Out: The Pioneers dropped two games last weekend on the road at Cal State LA and Cal State Dominguez Hills to open the second half of the conference season. 91短视频 dropped a 3-0 decision to the Golden Eagles improving on their first loss to LA by three goals, before falling to the Toros 3-1. Jessica Hamister scored the Pioneers lone goal on the weekend.
Looking Ahead: Cal State East Bay hits the road again next weekend for its last full weekend away from home this season. The Pioneers will travel to take on Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona on Oct. 22 and 24 before returning home to meet UC San Diego on Oct. 29 in their final CCAA home match.
Kick for a Cure: Friday’s doubleheader with Cal State Stanislaus will mark the Pioneers’ “Kick for a Cure” event to raise breast cancer awareness. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase pink East Bay t-shirts for a donation of $10 during the event and are encouraged to wear pink to the game. The first 100 Cal State East Bay students in pink will receive a free Pioneer Pride t-shirt.
Scouting Stanislaus: The Warriors come into Friday’s meeting sitting in third place in the North Division with a 6-3-3 record overall and a 5-3-2 mark in CCAA play. CSUS is coming off of two losses and a draw in its last three games, including a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Sonoma State on Sunday. The Warriors will be looking to repeat last year’s 3-2 win over the Pioneers in the teams’ only meeting last year.
Working Out the Wildcats: North Division leader Chico State enters the weekend as the No. 14 team in the latest NSCAA national poll and a 9-3 overall record. The Wildcats snapped a two-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over Humboldt State on Sunday and have won three of their last five games. Last season, Chico topped the Pioneers, 2-1, at home.

The Pioneers will take on the Warriors on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and meet the Wildcats on Sunday at 11:30 a.m., looking to return to success after dropping back-to-back games.

Pioneers Look to Repeat Success at Bronco Invitational: 91短视频 returns to the trails this weekend at the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara on Oct. 16. Last year, the Pioneer women finished second overall and saw Nancy Velasquez notch a sixth-place showing among a field of 135 competitors from all divisions.
Last Time Out: The Pioneer women finished 18th overall at the 36th annual Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem, Ore., on Oct. 2 before taking a break from competition. Competing against runners from all three NCAA Divisions, the East Bay women were led by sophomore Megan McDaniel’s 105th-place showing among a group of 257 competitiors. The Pioneer men finished in 23rd and were paced by Erik Rodriguez’ 141st-place finish, completing the course in 26:53.02, his best 8k time this season.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers travel to Cal Poly Pomona next weekend for a preview of the 2010 CCAA Championships course at the Cal Poly Pomona Invitational on Oct. 23. East Bay will then compete against the conference squads at championships on Nov. 6, back in Pomona.
