Pioneers Wrap Up Home Season with Three Matches This Week: The 22nd-ranked 91短视频 volleyball team closes out its home campaign this week, facing off against UC San Diego, Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus this week. The Pioneers (16-4, 11-4 CCAA) will look to hold onto second place and make it a pair of wins this season against the third-place Tritons at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Pioneer Gym. East Bay will then meet the Wildcats on Friday at 7 p.m., before facing the Warriors on Saturday at 7 p.m., looking to avenge a 3-0 loss in Turlock earlier this season. Cal State East Bay has won eight of its last nine matches and will look to continue its current five-match winning streak.

Last Week: The Pioneers kicked off their five-match homestand with a pair of wins over two opponents who defeated them in the first half of CCAA play in Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State. East Bay swept the Otters in the battle for second place on Friday night before coming back from down 2-0 to defeat the Gators in five sets in Saturday’s Battle of the Bay. The Pioneers were led by Jit Athwal’s 16 kills and .364 hitting percentage in Friday’s sweep, while Saturday saw several reserves come on to lead the East Bay to victory. Senior Cara Crowder came on in the second set and finished with 11 kills, just one behind leader Katie Allen, and swung at a .391 clip.

Looking Ahead: Following the conclusion of the five-match homestand, East Bay hits the road to close out the season with a four-match road trip. The Pioneers first travel to Cal State LA and Cal State Dominguez Hills  next weekend, before meeting first-place Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona to cap the 2010 campaign on Nov. 12 and 13.

Fond Farewell: 91短视频 will honor eight seniors on Saturday night when they play their final match at Pioneer Gym against Cal State Stanislaus. Meanwhile, transfers Katie Glomb, Amanda Limeberger, Ariel Ajagu, Cara Crowder, K.C. Walsh and Jit Athwal have been a big part of the Pioneers’ quick success in the CCAA over the last two seasons.

Sitting Pretty: Following the Pioneers’ 3-0 sweep of Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday and come-from-behind win over San Francisco State on Saturday, 91短视频 took outright control of second place in the CCAA with an 11-4 record in conference play. The Tritons also rank seventh in Division II with 18.24 digs per set, thanks to Janessa Werhane’s 4.8 digs per set. UCSD will be looking to avenge a 3-2 loss to the Pioneers in the teams’ first meeting this season on Sept. 15 in La Jolla.

Checking In with Chico State: The Wildcats enter the weekend with an 11-11 overall record and a 6-10 mark in conference play, good for 10th-place in the CCAA.
