POMONA, Calif. – The 91短视频 men’s soccer team could not overcome four first-half goals by Cal Poly Pomona, eventually falling to the Broncos, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon in Pomona. The Pioneers (2-14-2, 1-11-2 CCAA) were outshot 39-9 in the loss and saw Broncos’ forward Luis Gonzalez set a new CCAA record with 10 points in the game.

"We were playing well early on in the match," CSUEB Head Coach Andy Cumbo said. "We had trouble with the ball at times and we put our midfield and backline under a lot of pressure. Overall it was a poor performance on our end."

Though the Broncos scored four goals in the first frame, the Pioneers held Pomona scoreless for the first 20 minutes of the half. During that span, East Bay notched three shots, forcing Bronco keeper Tony Iniguez to make save and his defense to block another shot.

The momentum was short-lived, however, as Pomona took control in the 22nd minute, getting the first of four goals from Gonzalez to take a 1-0 lead. Nearly three minutes later, the Broncos and Gonzalez struck again, this time off a corner kick from Sean Gurley, increasing their lead to two goals.

Cal Poly Pomona added its third goal in the 30th minute, as Gonzalez notched his fifth point of the match with an assist on the score by Jonathan Enns that gave the Broncos a 3-0 lead. Following the goal, the Pioneers looked set to cut the Pomona lead, as Alexis Romo forced a save by Iniguez and the following corner produced a shot from Carlos Navarrete that sailed wide.

The Broncos regained control to end the first half, scoring with less than three minutes remaining to take a 4-0 lead into the break. After an unsuccessful clearance by the Pioneer defense, Anthony Salcedo took advantage, beating keeper Bryce Bookhamer for the fourth goal of the game.

Cal Poly Pomona finished the first half with an 18-5 advantage in shots, forcing Bookhamer to make six saves in the opening frame. On the other end, Iniguez made two stops to hold the Pioneers scoreless.

The second half brought more of the same for the Broncos, who added another pair in the first 10 minutes of the second frame. First Salcedo scored his second goal of the game on a one-on-one with CSUEB replacement keeper Patrick Gilbertson in the 52nd minute to give Pomona a 5-0 advantage. Just three minutes later, Gonzalez made it a had trick, with Enns notching his fourth point of the match with the assist, to put the Broncos up by six.

Over the next 17 minutes, Gilbertson and the Pioneer defense faced eight shots but managed to keep the Broncos out of the back of the net thanks to four saves from Gilbertson. In the 72nd minute, however, Pomona struck again, with Gonzalez posting his CCAA single-game record-tying fourth goal of the match to give the Broncos their final 7-0 lead.

Despite trailing by seven, the Pioneers remained diligent, posting their only shots of the second frame in the last 10 minutes of the match. Jake Bedell, Sean Lynum-Young and Daniel Borst each posted a shot that forced Iniguez to make a save in the final minutes of the match, but could not beat the keeper, who made five saves in the match to earn the shutout and the win.

Borst and sophomore Michael Dowson, who posted a pair of shots apiece, led 91短视频. Bookhamer finished the match with six saves on 18 Bronco shots and Gilbertson made nine saves while facing 21 shots in the second frame. Gonzalez led the Pomona offense with four goals, two assists and 10 shots.
