It's hard to believe that Homecoming Week is already here! Here's hoping everyone is enjoying all of the "Red and Black Attack" festivities so far. We've got even more great activities and games to enjoy as the week progresses.
On Thursday, you can join us for the Kiss an iPod Contest at lunch, the Homecoming Parade at 3:30 p.m. and the first basketball doubleheader of the week against Cal State Monterey Bay. The women take on the first-place Otters at 5:30 p.m., before the men's teams meet at 7:30 p.m.
Friday kicks off a Homecoming Weekend that features eight Pioneer athletics events, starting with the baseball team's season opener against Vanguard at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Field. Then, head over to Pioneer Pool for a luau party, featuring music, food and prizes, during the water polo game against Sonoma State at 3 p.m.
The biggest day of the week starts off with a baseball doubleheader at Pioneer Field, beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Then get ready for the Battle of the Bay basketball doubleheader with San Francisco State by heading to the ASI/Alumni Pre-Game Tailgate at 2 p.m. in Lot A. The tailgate will include contests, prizes, food, music, face painting and more – something for everyone.
Once the faces are painted and fans are amped up for the games, the Pioneer women will kick off the night against the Gators at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m. The night's events will feature performances by Eclectic Pulse and Stance and the introduction of the 2011 Homecoming Court, while a Homecoming Party for students in the New Union will cap the Pioneer Pride-filled evening.
Finally, softball will close out the week's events with a Sunday doubleheader at noon. Full details about the rest of the events during Homecoming Week can be found on the new athletics .
Once Homecoming has ended, we've only got two more home doubleheaders in the 2010-11 basketball season. Be sure to get out to the doubleheader on Feb. 10 against Chico State for WBCA Pink Zone night at Pioneer Gym. Wear your pink, and support breast cancer research and awareness while rooting on the Pioneers! Then join us on Feb. 12 as the Pioneers take on Cal State Stanislaus; we'll also honor the five Pioneer seniors.
Though the Pioneers' home season is ending next week, basketball season on campus will not be over, as we prepare to host the 2011 CCAA Basketball Championships Mar. 4 and 5. Basketball fans of all ages are encouraged to make their way to Pioneer Gym for the semifinals and finals for both the men and women which will feature the top teams in the conference. The winners of both tournaments receive an automatic berth into the 2011 NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament. Last season, men's CCAA Tournament finalist Cal Poly Pomona went on to win the Division II National Championship. More information can be found on the CCAA .
With basketball season quickly coming to a close, it's time to focus on the spring sports with softball, baseball, track and water polo just getting underway in their second full season competing in Division II. We're set for an exciting spring on campus. Get out to the events this weekend and get a taste of what's to come this spring!
