HAYWARD, Calif. – A hot-shooting UC San Diego team toppled the 91短视频 women’s basketball team, 82-44, on Monday night at Pioneer Gym. The Pioneers (0-10, 0-6 CCAA) could not match the Tritons’ 61.2 percent shooting from the field that included 13 three-pointers, the most by an East Bay opponent this season.

"It didn't matter what we tried to take away, UCSD found the open player and knocked down their shots at an amazing percentage," Pioneer Head Coach Suzy Barcomb said. "They hit tough shots with the clock winding down. We ran into a very hot-shooting team."

UC San Diego (6-7, 4-2 CCAA) had four players in double figures, led by Chelsea Carlisle’s 18 on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range. Daisy Feder, Emily Osga and Erin Grady joined Carlisle in double digits, combining for 36 points and six threes.

Claudia Nelson’s 10 points led the Pioneers, while Maria Dinesen added nine points and Marlene MacMillan and Cassie Coble each posted six. Nelson and MacMillan helped East Bay outrebound the Tritons, 32-28, pulling down seven boards apiece to pace the Pioneers. East Bay posted turned the ball over just 16 times, five below its season average, but UCSD took advantage scoring 18 points off the 91短视频 giveaways.

"We took care of the basketball and we hit the glass tonight," Barcomb said.

After the Pioneers opened the game with a three-point lead, UCSD and Carlisle went to work from long range, with the junior guard knocking down a pair of threes to give the Tritons an 8-5 lead at the 17:19 mark. UC San Diego continued to control the pace, going on a 10-point run and holding the Pioneers scoreless for over five minutes to take an 18-5 lead midway through the half.

Lucchesi snapped the scoreless streak with a three that sparked a span that saw the two teams score back-and-forth for several minutes before the Pioneers put together and impressive defensive spell that saw it make four straight stops. During that span, East Bay pulled back within eight points, 25-17, with 8:14 remaining. The Tritons responded, however, as Osga broke through a three-minute drought with five points in less than a minute to spark an 18-8 run and give UCSD a 44-25 lead at the break.

UC San Diego finished the half shooting a blistering 70.8 percent from the field, including an almost unheard of 70 percent (7-of-10) from three-point range. Osga and Carlisle posted 12 and 11, respectively, to lead the Tritons, who also outrebounded the Pioneers 13-11 in the first frame. 91短视频, which shot 37 percent from the field in the half, was led by Dinesen’s nine points and Nelson and MacMillan’s three boards apiece. The Pioneers also notched four steals in the first half, but the Tritons scored 12 points off seven East Bay turnovers.

Both teams started the second half off slow, going two minutes without a bucket and combining for four turnovers. Once UC San Diego got started, however, it opened with a 14-4 run sparked by an Erin Grady jumper at 18:12. The three-minute run saw the Tritons take a 21-point lead with the initial bucket and never trail by fewer than 20 points for the remainder of the game.

Trailing by 29, 58-29, at the 15:18 mark at the end of the run, the Pioneers pulled back to within 25 thanks to back-to-back buckets from Azizi Dotson and Nelson to cut the lead to 58-33. UCSD answered with a 23-6 run that included five three pointers, spanned more than eight minutes and sealed the victory after giving the Tritons an 81-39 lead with 3:03 remaining. Despite a pair of buckets from the Pioneers in the final three minutes, the UCSD advantage was too great.

The Pioneers finished the game shooting 31.5 percent from the field and 25 percent from three-point range, hitting just one shot from downtown in the second frame after knocking down three in the first.

Cal State East Bay hits the road after a quick three-day break, heading to Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State this weekend. The Pioneers are set to meet the Warriors on Friday and the 20th-ranked Wildcats on Saturday.
