Acclaimed poet next presenter in 'Distinguished Writers' series
Acclaimed poet Forrest Hamer is next presenter in "Distinguished Writers" series.

Prize-winning poet Forrest Hamer will read from his creative works at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21 on Hayward Campus of California State University, East Bay, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd.
The free program is part of the university's Distinguished Writers Series, in conjunction with National Poetry Mnth, and will be held in the Biella Room of the University Library.
Presented by the Department of English, the program will begin with recognition of and readings by this year’s three DeClercq Poetry Prize winners, followed by Hamer’s reading and book signing.
Susan Gubernat, associate professor of English and program director, thinks Hamer will make a strong impression.
"As Forrest Hamer makes apparent in a forthcoming interview with him in the university's literary magazine, ‘Arroyo,’ his is a poetry of lyrical witness," said Gubernat.
Hamer’s book, “Call & Response,” won the Beatrice Hawley Award, and, “Middle Ear,” is a finalist for the Bay Area Book Reviewers Association Award. His third book is, “Rift.” His work has been published in such journals as “Beloit Poetry Journal,” “Callaloo,” “Kenyon Review,” “Ploughshares,” “Shenandoah,” “TriQuarterly,” “ZYZZYVA,” “Berkeley Poetry Review,” and “Cream City Review.”
His writing has been anthologized in, “Best American Poetry,” “Poet’s Choice: Poems for Everyday Life,” “The Geography of Home: California’s Poetry of Place,” and “Word of Mouth: An Anthology of Gay American Poetry.”
Educated at Yale University and University of California, Berkeley, Hamer is a psychologist in private practice in Oakland and a lecturer at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis at UC Berkeley.
