University Art Gallery hosts student exhibition, free film series

Artwork by Cal State East Bay students, and a free film series, are set for exhibition April 25 through June 4 in the University Art Gallery on the university's Hayward Campus, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd.
The artwork, selected by Sam Bower, director of greenmuseum.org, will be introduced at a reception from 5-7 p.m. April 25 at the gallery, on the first floor of the Art and Education building. It may be viewed from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays and Saturdays, and from 6-9 p.m. Fridays. (The gallery will be closed May 30.)
Of the 68 art pieces submitted, Bower chose 35 for the show, including paintings, photographs, ceramic and mixed media sculpture, video and interactive illustrative, book designs. Among them are a needlepoint sculpture of a Koi pond by Elizabeth Zunino, a short film by Donghoon Han, and an interactive African poetry book by Yasmin Bennet-Jackson.
Additional exhibitors are Chris Andrade, Victor Arce, Tim Arioto, Aldrin Bulayo, Laura Cline, Eric Coe, Zachary I. Dennis, Shalee Evans, Eyael Fisseha, Rosita Fogelman, Maria Fulmer, David Frohwein, Ana Maria Gallegos, Jacqueline Garcia, Ray Hernandez, Justin Kernes, Joel Kim, Robert J. Lopez, Philip Long, Pat Mc Cabe, Andrew W. Parker, Justin Reece, Ali Sharifi, Linda Soules, Jena Scholten, Justin Ta, Teresa Taniguchi, Justin Tolentino, Andy Wallace, and Michael Wallace.
As a special enticement, Friday evening visitors to the gallery are encouraged to stay for a free film and snacks, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Entitled the "Graphic Novel Film Series," offerings will be: “Ghost World,” April 29; “The Crow,” May 6; “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,” May 13; “Art School Confidential,” May 20; “Iron Man,” May 27; and “Sin City,” June 3.
