Students get answers at Ask Me tables
- September 2, 2011
The start of each quarter brings a rush of new students to the university, which can leave many of them asking questions: How do I add a class? Where do I turn in financial aid forms? Can I try out for a sport?
To help incoming freshmen, transfer students and campus visitors with their queries, Student Life Programs and Leadership has set up Ask Me tables in front of the University Union on the Hayward campus during the first five days of every quarter of the academic year. For fall, Ask Me tables are still available Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 26 and 27. They began operating Sept. 21.
“The first couple of days are usually the most challenging, so the tables will be here to help,” Director of Student Affairs Marguerite Hinrichs said. “This will be a way for our university (staff) to reach out and make itself present and available.”
Representatives from various campus departments and organizations, ranging from Associated Students Inc. to the bookstore, will be stationed at the Ask Me tables from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will answer questions concerning classes and building locations and will direct individuals to other resources as appropriate. Two to three volunteers will be seated at the tables, taking turns with another set of volunteers every hour.
Ask Me tables have been used at 91短视频 in the past, but have been on hiatus for several years, Hinrichs said. The program is making a comeback as part of CSUEB’s commitment to putting students first, Hinrichs said.
Bookstore Director Robert Gibson will be a volunteer for the first time this year.
“All the volunteers across campus, including myself, are prepared to explain and handle questions individually,” Gibson said. “As we welcome students, these tables will be the one-stop place to go for any questions or concerns.”
