For Halloween, media outlets nationwide turned to Christopher Moreman, assistant professor of philosophy, to figure out why zombies are everywhere — from entertainment to news reporting — and how the term has evolved from its roots in Haitian folklore.
Nobel Surprise
91短视频’s Laura Nelson, chair of anthropology, is on her way to Stockholm this week, to join her spouse as he accepts a Nobel Prize. Saul Perlmutter (UC Berkeley, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab) was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in October for his team’s work studying the expansion of the universe.
In memoriam: Ida Cotton ’10
The university community was saddened to learn that beloved alumna Ida Cotton died Oct. 6 in Oakland. “Miss Ida” – as she was known around campus — earned her master's degree in counseling and gerontology at the age of 85 and endeared herself to students while living in Pioneer Heights student housing.
