Year-end gifts support students throughout 2013

As the year draws to a close, many donors are making a final run through their list of charitable organizations that accomplish the good work they want to see in their community. 

91短视频 encourages donors to think of students this holiday season and make a gift to the university’s Annual Fund that will support their successful return to school in 2013.

Although the University will be closed December 24, 2012 until January 2, 2013, donors can continue to make gifts that will be counted in the 2012 tax year. All gifts made or postmarked by Dec. 31 are eligible for 2012 tax deductions and can be used right away to benefit students and academic programs, said Kate Shaheed, Director of Annual Fund and Giving Programs.

Scholarships are particularly crucial at CSUEB, where approximately 60 percent of students receive some kind of financial aid. “Our commitment to keeping a high-quality college experience accessible to as many students as possible has never been more important,” Shaheed said.

Recently, donors provided support to students close to graduation through the “Save Our Students” scholarship fund. Pioneer Athletics also recognized the first recipients of the Richard and Susan Sherratt athletic scholarships. In October, the university established a new fund in honor of President Leroy Morishita, the Presidential Pioneer Scholarship Endowment. The president and his wife have pledged to match gifts made to that endowment up to $50,000.

Checks postmarked prior to Dec. 31 will be recorded for December 2012 for tax benefit purposes and processed in the new year. All donors will receive gift receipts by the end of January.
