Homecoming 2013 filled with action, events and Pioneer Pride

91短视频 is set to celebrate Pioneer Pride and the history of the university when it hosts Homecoming 2013 next week. The campus community will come together for a week full of special events, contests, games and shows to celebrate more than 50 years in the Hayward Hills with the theme: ’57 Classic...Pioneers for Life. The event, set to begin Monday, will culminate with a basketball doubleheader against Cal State LA, and also includes spirit contests, a Homecoming parade and party, pre-game tailgates, alumni social and other events to bring together the campus and local community to celebrate more than five decades of learning, life and pride in Hayward.

For the third consecutive year, Cal State East Bay students will have a chance to win prizes for attending Homecoming Week activities and events with the Homecoming Passport. For every event that students attend, they will receive a stamp on their passport and students attending nearly every event will have the chance to win a grand prize. Homecoming Passports will be available on Monday outside the Pioneer Bookstore and at all Homecoming events.

The campus community and Pioneer fans are also encouraged to participate in two Homecoming Week activities that give back to the local community. Throughout the week, the Athletics Department and Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) will host a canned food drive to benefit the Alameda County Food Bank with the goal of collecting 1,000 food items. Students, staff, faculty and community members can place non-perishable food items in barrels around campus all week. In addition, Student Health and the Peer Advocates for Wellness will host a blood drive with the American Red Cross on Tuesday in the New Union Multipurpose Room from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Each day of the week will feature a decade theme and students, faculty and staff are encouraged to join in on the fun by dressing for each theme. The week will open with Millenium Mix, the 2000s on Monday, which also marks the beginning of weeklong events, including the Canned Food Drive and the East Bay Idol Contest, which will be held online with the top contestants singing the national anthem at the week's basketball games. Monday, Feb. 4, will also feature Pioneer baseball against Central Washington at 2 p.m. and the second annual East Bay’s Best Dance Crew competition at 8:30 p.m. in the Dining Commons.

Tuesday’s Everything ’90s theme will coincide with the Homecoming Kickoff event outside the bookstore featuring music, dancing and more from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fans can catch more Pioneer baseball on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and campus departments can put the finishing touches on their door and office decorations to enter under the 5 p.m. deadline.

The 1980s return on Wednesday, Feb. 6, when students and staff will judge office and door decorations and Pioneer baseball will be back in action against Central Washington at 2 p.m. The day will wrap up with the Pioneer SAAC Pep Rally & Variety Show at 8:30 p.m. in the gym. The rally will feature a talent show for performers from across campus, competitions featuring the Pioneer basketball teams and free pizza for the first 100 fans in attendance. SAAC will hold a 50/50 raffle to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In addition, those in attendance who bring food items to donate to the Canned Food Drive will get raffle tickets for the  for each can they bring to the rally, earning a chance to win prizes like Oakland A’s tickets and an iPad Mini.

Thursday, Feb. 7, will be time to get into the Groovy ’70s theme and check out the Homecoming Fashion Show featuring the best creations from Pioneer gear hosted by the Pioneer Bookstore in the Union at 12 p.m. Thursday night, students, staff, faculty and the Hayward community are invited to enjoy “Grease” on the big screen for Residence Life’s Thursday Night Takeover in Parking Lot C1 at 9 p.m. The drive-in movie will feature light snacks for sale and room for attendees with and without cars.

On Friday, Feb. 8,  fans will don the wardrobe of the Hip ’60s as we celebrate the first basketball games of the week starting with the Homecoming Parade at 3 p.m. Open to public spectators, the parade is set to feature Cal State East Bay student organizations, the Pioneer Pep Band, the Hayward High School Farmers Marching Band, classic cars, a veterans motorcycle club and more, who will lead the way to Pioneer Gym for the Greek Life Pre-Game Tailgate at 4 p.m. 91短视频’s greek organizations will host music, food and performances for the campus community and fans to enjoy before the Pioneer basketball doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. Following the games, students are invited to celebrate with Associated Students, Inc., at the Run CSUEB Homecoming Party at the Dining Commons at 9:30 p.m. The party is set to feature a 1980s theme, photo booth, DJ and more.

The Homecoming themes come to an end with Saturday’s ’57 Classic theme, celebrating the university’s founding as the State College for Alameda County in 1957. Fans attending games and events on Saturday are encouraged to don their Pioneer gear from any decade or get into their best 1950s getup. The jam-packed day will begin with a Pioneer track alumni meet and reception at 10 a.m. at the track. Pioneer baseball will open its weekend series with a doubleheader against Oregon tech at 12 p.m.

Alumni are invited to attend the second annual Homecoming Alumni Social at  the ME Lounge on B Street in Downtown Hayward for appetizers, drink specials, raffles, music from a 91短视频 alumnus, costume contest and more from 2-5 p.m. The Saturday evening activities also include the Pioneer basketball doubleheader against the Golden Eagles, starting at 5:30 p.m. During the games, the winners of the parade contests and Homecoming King and Queen will be announced.



Sunday, the Homecoming festivities wind down with a pair of Pioneer doubleheaders. The baseball team meets Oregon Tech at 11 a.m., while the softball team will play its home opener against Dominican at 12 p.m.
