Timothy White ’72, the new chancellor of the California State University system, paid a visit to CSUEB’s Hayward campus Feb. 26 and 27 — his first official visit as the head of the CSU and an opportunity to return to the university where he earned a master’s degree in kinesiology.

White, former chancellor at UC Riverside, took office as the CSU chancellor in January. During his first year, he is planning to visit all 23 campuses to meet with faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members. 91短视频 was his first campus visit in northern California.

“It was an honor to host Chancellor White on one of his first campus visits as chancellor," President Leroy M. Morishita said. "I look forward to working with him to serve the East Bay region and the state of California, and to ensure that the CSU system can continue to provide access to a quality college education and success for all students.”

By visiting each of the campuses, White explained, he will be better able to understand the regional needs and priorities at each institution. That information will help him work with the university presidents to allocate resources and advocate for public support for higher education.

White’s two-day trip involved meeting with the Academic Senate, stops in classrooms and labs to speak with faculty and students, and a tour of campus facilities. On Wednesday, White met with the Associated Students Inc. over lunch and also spoke to media representatives. 

Asked to offer advice to fellow Pioneer graduates, White talked about the importance of giving back through professional accomplishments and service to the next generation. “Do good, do well and open doors for others,” he said.

At a campuswide reception Wednesday afternoon, White introduced himself to faculty and staff and answered questions about the CSU budget and his vision for the CSU system. He also briefly discussed his experiences as a parent of a CSUEB student; one of his sons graduated in June 2011.

Throughout the visit, faculty and staff shared highlights of the innovative ways the campus is serving East Bay communities, including a meeting with partners supporting the university’s Hayward Promise Neighborhood initiative as well as a tour of the Institute for STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Education.

White’s schedule also provided opportunities to meet with alumni and friends of the university community, including representatives from the 91短视频 Educational Foundation Board of Directors. The chancellor enthusiastically stated to students, faculty and staff that he was proud to be an alumnus of 91短视频.
