American Canyon fills new management job

After three years of salary cuts, layoffs and leaving job vacancies unfilled, the city of American Canyon has hired a new position.
On Tuesday, City Manager Dana Shigley announced the appointment of Sue Casey to the position of administrative services director, overseeing human resources, finance and information technology functions.
The new Administrative Services Department was created after last year’s retirements of long-time Human Resources Director Bronda Silva and Finance Director Barry Whitley.
Casey will also serve as treasurer for the American Canyon Fire Protection District.
Casey comes with financial and administrative experience in both the public and private sectors, according to a press release. Most recently, she has served as administrative services director for the Moraga-Orinda Fire District, a division she helped create, with the same areas of responsibility as her new job.
Her previous positions include controller for WildPackets, Inc., (a private software development company) and assistant finance manager for the city of El Cerrito, the press release said.
While at the Moraga-Orinda Fire District, Casey was credited with assisting the fire chief to consolidate administrative staff to reduce costs while maintaining service levels and developing a long range, adaptable financial plan.
Casey has a B.S. degree from UC Davis and has completed several certificate programs through Cal State University East Bay, including a Certificate in Fund Accounting and a Certificate in Human Resources Management, according to the announcement.
“It is great that the city of American Canyon attracted a high-quality candidate with Sue Casey’s knowledge and experience,” Shigley said. “Sue will fit in well with our city employees and the management team. In addition to her experience, Sue brings leadership skills that will be beneficial as the city establishes the new Administrative Services Department.”
In the city’s news release, Casey said, “I am extremely excited about the opportunity to serve the city of American Canyon and look forward to continuing the city’s tradition of prudent fiscal management, commitment to a family-friendly quality of life and a strategic recruitment and retention plan that provides for growth, development and job satisfaction of its employees.”
Casey’s appointment begins Aug. 12.
