CSUEB Associate Vice President Susan Opp Appointed Provost of Cal Maritime

Susan Opp, 91短视频’s associate vice president, Academic Programs and Graduate Studies, has been appointed provost of California State University Maritime Academy in Vallejo.
Opp, who has been serving in her current position at CSUEB since January 2010, will assume her new post at Cal Maritime on May 1.
In making the announcement, Cal Maritime President Thomas A. Cropper said, “Dr. Opp has an impressive background in curriculum development. I believe she is the ideal person to lead the construction of our academic master plan and ensure Cal Maritime’s place as the center of excellence for maritime studies.”
As provost, Opp will be the senior academic administrator for a program that has been ranked the No. 1 best public college in the Western region and third among all Western regional colleges by U.S. News and World Report. The university has also received recent accolades from Forbes, Money, and Washington Monthly.
“The entire university community has benefitted from Dr. Opp’s work and presence,” said 91短视频 Provost James Houpis. “She has distinguished herself in and out of the classroom, and her leadership has been invaluable. Her departure will be felt by everyone, but we are delighted for her and for our fellow CSU educators at Cal Maritime.”
At 91短视频, Opp was a professor of biological sciences, graduate coordinator for the biological and marine sciences master’s programs, and founder and director of the environmental science bachelor’s degree program.
Before her post as 91短视频’s associate vice president, she served as chair of CSUEB’s Academic Senate and chair of the Senate Committee on Budget and Resource Allocation.
She received the Outstanding Professor Award at 91短视频 in 2009 and is the recipient of numerous other awards, honors and recognitions, including the Woman of the Year in Science Award from the Alameda County Women's Hall of Fame and the John H. Comstock Award for Outstanding Graduate Research from the Entomological Society of America.
Opp, a Bay Area native, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from San Francisco State University, a master’s degree in entomology from UC Riverside, and a doctorate in entomology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
