- May 8, 2015
Cal State East Bay senior Ryan Kochan has been selected to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-District First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The San Ramon, Calif., native was one of four infielders to collect the prestigious award, which is voted on by Sports Information Directors representing the 25 Division II institutions in CoSIDA’s West Region.
Kochan has excelled on and off the field since transferring to CSUEB from Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, Calif. He has a 3.66 GPA as a business administration major and is a two-time Academic All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honoree.
The Pioneer third baseman also had a standout season on the field as a senior, leading the team in batting average (.363), on-base percentage (.407), doubles (14), and runs batted in (34), while turning in outstanding defense at the hot corner.
He batted .519 over the final three weeks of the season and was the first CSUEB player to win back-to-back CCAA Player of the Week awards. Kochan finished the season as the third-leading hitter in the conference, and he was voted to the 2015 All-CCAA First Team by the league's head coaches after capturing honorable mention honors as a junior.
