Pharos Upgrade

  • November 2, 2015

Did you notice the big posters when you arrived to campus this fall headlined "How to Print" and "How to Copy" above duplicating machines in the Library and other student labs? The "Pharos" system is experiencing a major upgrade. How does this system change affect you?

Duplicating Services partnered with Information Technology Services to upgrade Pharos system from version 8.2 to 9.0 to bring powerful new options for students.

The "Release Anywhere" feature allows students to send their print jobs to the Print Server and then visit any student lab on campus to release the jobs. Print locations include the Library, AACE, Meiklejohn, VBT, Music, PE, Project Impact, South Science and Concord.

The "Secure Release" feature protects your print jobs from being viewed or printed by others.  Your files do not appear in anyone else’s queue — and you likewise cannot see anyone else’s files, making it easy to identify your jobs and release them. Just make sure to print within four hours or they will disappear. If that happens, you will not be charged — you just need to print again. You also will no longer have to password-protect your jobs.

Another exciting feature is "MobilePrint." Now you can send an email from any mobile device to PioneerPrintBW@csueastbay.edu or PioneerPrintColor@csueastbay.edu with up to ten attachments. MobilePrint will process the email and create separate print jobs for each attachment. Additionally, if the email body is more than 100 characters, MobilePrint will also create a print job for the email.

Finally, "My Print Center" is a new central website where you can review all your pending print jobs, modify them and change how they will print. You can also review your previous history on your account. My Print Center is available at .

Here’s all you have to do: Users of the laptop package will need to uninstall and reinstall new printer packages to be able to print to campus printers after the upgrade as well as to take advantage of the other additional features that are described above. Visit to download the printer packages and for additional information.
