Cal State East Bay senior Tori Breshers has been selected as the first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) women's basketball Player of the Week for the 2015-16 season.
Breshers led the Pioneers to a 2-0 record in the season's opening weekend with victories at home over Western Oregon and Dominican. She was the leading scorer in both games, averaging 18.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.0 block for East Bay. This is the first career CCAA Player of the Week award for the four-year senior.
On Friday evening in a 57-42 win over the Wolves, the Gardena native was an efficient 6-for-9 from the field and 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. The following night, she notched a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four steals in a 10-point victory over the Penguins.
With 37 points to open the season, Breshers moves up to fourth on the program's all-time scoring list with 938 points, passing former teammates Stephanie Lopez and Micah Walker. A second team All-CCAA selection in 2014-15, Breshers is already the Pioneer's all-time leader in blocks (118). She also ranks fourth in school history in made field goals (337), third in made free throws (258), and sixth in rebounds (493).
This weekend, Breshers will play in her 91st career game at East Bay as the team travels to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs for another two-game tournament. The Pioneers take on the host Mountain Lions on Friday, followed by Metro State on Saturday.
