As the state closes in on its fourth year of extreme drought, 91短视频 associate professor Jean Moran is digging into California’s groundwater stores to determine which are most vulnerable and which are most vital to protect.
Moran’s work in hydrogeology (groundwater movement and distribution) could provide crucial solutions for California’s nearly 40 million residents. She has been compiling a landmark data set on groundwater stores in partnership with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s Groundwater Ambient Monitoring Assessment (GAMA) program. Together they are working to answer long-standing questions about California’s below-ground capital, and to consult on the water sustainability plans for overdrafted basins mandated by Governor Jerry Brown’s 2014 Groundwater Sustainability Act.
