- February 26, 2016
For the first time in program history, the 91¶ÌÊÓƵ women's basketball team will host a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) playoff game.
With a school record 23 wins for the season and a record of 17-2 in conference play, the Pioneers have clinched a top-three seed in next week's CCAA women's basketball tournament. East Bay will play its first round game on Tuesday, March 1 at 7 p.m. in Pioneer Gymnasium.
The first 300 fans to present their Bay Card on Tuesday will receive FREE admission to Pioneer Gym. Student, faculty, and staff tickets are $2 with a Bay Card thereafter. General admission costs $10, and visiting students can get in for $5 with student ID.
The Pioneers, winners of 11 straight games after a pair of dramatic Homecoming Week victories last weekend, are looking to capture 91¶ÌÊÓƵ’s first team CCAA championships in any sport since joining the conference in 2009-10. They came up just short last year, falling to Cal State Dominguez Hills in the championship game.
The 2015-16 squad has been making history all season and enters this Saturday's regular season finale at the top of the CCAA standings and ranked No. 4 in the nation in scoring defense.
CSUEB is slotted at No. 6 in the West Region in this week's NCAA Division II ranking. It's the highest ranking in program history, as the Pioneers improve one spot from last week following a thrilling victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills. The top eight teams in the West after next week will earn a berth in the NCAA Division II championships, beginning Mar. 11.
The Pioneers wrap up the regular season this Saturday, Feb. 27, at home against Cal State Monterey Bay. The 5:30 p.m. tip-off will be preceded by the annual "Senior Night" ceremony to honor the six seniors on the 2015-16 squad.
