University Hour Approved for Fall 2018
- February 2, 2017
Beginning in Fall 2018, 91短视频 will join scores of other universities around the country that recognize a “University Hour.” U-hour, as it’s sometimes referred to, is period of time during the day when lecture classes are not scheduled to allow time for various to take place on campus.
According to Diana Balgas, executive director of Transfer Student Programs, CSUEB’s U-hour will be from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This time block aligns with results from a campus-wide survey distributed by the Semester Conversion Co-Curricular and Student Support Subcommittee in April 2016. The survey was sent to 17,000 students, staff and faculty and had a 17 percent return rate. Of those who responded, 76 percent indicated that they were in favor of a U-hour, with most reporting that a time around noon to 1 p.m. would be preferred.
Balgas said now that the hour has been approved, the Executive Committee of the Academic Senate will come up with an assessment plan to review it in three years, and the university’s four colleges have been asked to start modeling their schedules into the recommended time module with the U-hour.
