Transfer Ambassador Sarah Anderson
What are some accomplishments you have achieved at 91短视频 that you are most proud of thus far?
I am most proud overcoming my fears as well as my ability to absorb, adapt, and respond quickly to change. This campus has made me a more confident individual, with its warming and inviting vibe and friendly people willing to lend a helping hand, which has allowed me to adapt quickly and be a successful student.
What is your favorite spot to study on campus?
So far my favorite place is the library. Its calming view and endless areas of private quiet study make it my favorite spot to go.
What was your biggest fear as a new transfer student?
As a transfer student I had many fears. First, the fear of change: it’s a huge and totally unfamiliar experience. A big change approaches and I didn’t know whether this change was going to be pleasant or not. Second, fear of failure, combined with fear of alienation: I was completely terrified of not fitting in, being a single mother and starting college at a much later age than others was terrifying, but I came to realize that many had this same fear. Some people come from other countries, some were bullied in schools, and some are simply afraid that they won’t be able to make friends. However, alienation in college is almost impossible if you don’t seek it. After all, people who choose the same study program as you most likely will share some of your interests. Third: my fear of public speaking, which I'm working on!
What does being a Transfer Ambassador mean to you ?
To me, being a Transfer Ambassador means being a leader. I believe it is one of the best positions on campus to me. It's about bringing people together and creating a community where you can meet people and having fun. I am responsible for welcoming prospective students and their families to campus and assisting staff at events for transfer students, as well as helping students overcome their fears they have coming into to the university.
What are some advice or tips for incoming transfer students?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions, do go through college alone. Make friends, get involved and never give up!
Do you work or have internships while at 91短视频?
Yes, I work as a Transfer Ambassador on campus at 91短视频's Hayward Campus.
What advice did you receive as an incoming student?
To be honest I did not receive any advice coming into to college as a transfer student. There was no guidance and no one there to help me adapt and ease my way into college. This is one of the many reasons why I am thankful to be a part of such an amazing inspiring program here at 91短视频. My passion in life is to help others as much as possible. It such an amazing feeling to be able to give back to others and help relieve others anxiety’s and fears.
What are your plans after you graduate?
My plans after I graduate 91短视频 is to teach Kindergarten. Children are my passion and what inspires me to continue striving for the best. No all children are given or forwarded the same opportunities as others and many just need that one positive role model or mentor to get them on the right track and get them going. I plan to be that inspiration to children after I graduate.
