Transforming science education and the STEM workforce

91短视频 is thrilled to announce the upcoming opening of The Braddock Center for Science and Innovation in January 2025. This state-of-the-art facility, made possible by a generous $5 million donation from East Bay natives Robert Braddock and Cherie Keemar through Braddock Philanthropies, will revolutionize science education and research at the university. The Braddock Center for Science and Innovation will be a place of discovery where students become 21st-century scientists, working alongside their professors in interdisciplinary, open-concept laboratories. Faculty mentored student research opportunities are a hallmark of the educational experience in the College of Science, and this new facility will expand these opportunities and accommodate the rapid growth in students studying in the sciences at 91短视频.

A Hub for Innovation and Discovery:

The Braddock Center, a 20,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility funded entirely through private donations, will provide students with cutting-edge research labs, collaborative learning spaces, and innovative technology hubs. Here, students will have the opportunity to work alongside renowned faculty on groundbreaking projects.

Inside, students and faculty will have:

  • Cutting-edge Research Labs: State-of-the-art, open-concept research labs where student and faculty teams can collaborate on cutting-edge projects. Two key labs include the Green Biome Institute Lab, dedicated to studying and conserving California's endangered plants, and the Biotechnology Lab, where students will gain hands-on experience and receive an excellent education in molecular biology and bioinformatics.
  • Technology Collaboration: A dedicated student-faculty research space, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and the application of new technologies across various fields of study.
  • Innovation Center: This signature space encourages students to tackle real-world challenges by applying new technologies to regional and global issues. Project-based learning and outward-facing programs utilize this space, along with students working on capstone projects in engineering, physics, and other disciplines.
  • Active Learning Classrooms: Designed to promote teamwork and focused projects, these classrooms function more like team offices. Students can leave their work materials while facilitating brainstorming and collaboration among faculty, students, and community representatives.
