Types of Aid Available for Summer Session

Federal Pell Grants may be available to undergraduate and Teaching Credential students during the Summer. Award amounts are based on the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from your 2023-24 FAFSA, enrollment status, and the amount of Federal Pell Grant funds you have already received during the 2023-2024 academic year (including funds received at other institutions).

If you did not accept the maximum amount of Federal Direct Loan(s) available during the 2023-24 academic year and are enrolled in at least 6 units (undergraduates), 4 (graduates), you may be offered Federal Direct Loans for Summer. Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loan amounts are based on whatever remaining eligibility you have left over from the academic year. If eligible, they will be included in your summer award package.

Federal Direct PLUS Loan

If your parents had a PLUS loan during the academic year, and want to borrow a PLUS loan during the summer, a new application is required. A new application can be completed online at

For Graduate students, you can request a Graduate PLUS loan as part of your summer financial aid awards, if eligible. A new application can be completed online at .

As a Title IV serving institution, CSU East Bay does not offer a preferred lender list. The Application of Private Loans is at the discretion of the student. You can apply for private/alternative loans up to the cost of attendance for the term. However, we urge you to contact the Financial Aid Office to discuss other options that may be more favorable.
