Master of Science, Curriculum and Instruction

Program Overview
The Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction prepares individuals to take their teaching to the next level by enhancing their skills and knowledge to inspire and improve student achievement. Today, teachers must curate, collaborate and create materials for diverse and inclusive classrooms. The Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction has been redesigned to provide educational professionals advanced training and competencies in the area of Curriculum and Instruction. National, state and local documents are analyzed in coursework and evidenced-based pedagogies, inquiry based learning and social justice are examined through a critical lens.
This 3-semester 30 unit program caters to the working practitioner (T-K-12 teacher) and classes are offered at convenient times two times a week. Using a cohort and hybrid model, students take a series of classes designed to prepare them to become creators, collaborators and consumers of curriculum both in the classroom and online. They explore the “why” and “how to” of instruction using research and classroom practice. The program culminates with an action-research project in an educational setting.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of this program may be eligible to secure positions as curriculum developers, curriculum specialists, Teachers on Special Assignment (TSA), tutors, trainers for professional businesses. Graduates may also accept curriculum and leadership/teaching positions in State, County, District offices and Community Colleges.
Admission Requirements
Potential students must hold a post-baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, earned at least a 3.0 in all upper division/post-baccalaureate work, and an appropriate background which is typically successful completion of a California (or other state or country) teaching credential and/or work experience.
- Candidates must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
- Candidates must have earned at least a 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) in all upper division/post-baccalaureate coursework.
- If candidates have a baccalaureate degree from out of the country, they must have their transcripts evaluated by the International Graduate Student Admissions Office.
