The themes are still current-faithlessness, deception, and ambition. The play has everything a modern audience would wish for: witches, treachery, murder and enough blood to satisfy the most ghoulish or audiences. The story is based on the legendary fifty daughters of Danaus, who were descendants of Zeus. Born in Egypt, the Danaids have fled with their father to Argos in Greece to escape forced marriages to their cousins, the sons of Egyptus. This production was originally intended for the Cyprus Arts Festival this June and was also going to Budapest and Transylvania, but the war in Kosovo put a stop to all these plans.
- July 30-31, August 2-7 1999
- A stage adaptation directed by Ed Wright
- (Studio Theatre)
The Little Mermaid was written in 1837 by Hans Christian Anderson. Since that time may people have read and fallen in love with this tale. The story of a little mermaid whose love for a prince she saves from drowning, and her longing to be his bride, is at the heart of this tale. The little mermaid will do anything to have her dreams come true, even if it means making a pact with the evil sea witch. Our production is an adaptation with a much happier ending.

This play is a memorial and homage to those who “disappeared” in Yumbel under the Pinochet regime. Death is a reality, but it stops being a statistic when it invades one’s life in unjustified inhumanity that makes cruelty an unfathomable act. This play speaks for all the “disappeared” and for those who are left behind devastated by a senseless world that offers no reasons—Edgardo.
