Cal State Hayward’s Theatre and Dance Department will host the regional Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) Feb. 11 to 17. Schools from five states are scheduled to showcase their productions, compete for various awards and participate in workshops and seminars throughout the event.

I Never Saw Another Butterfly

Of the 15,000 children who passed through the ghetto of Terenin in the hills outside Prague, only 100 survived Nazi genocide. Artwork and poetry made by the children was discovered ten years after the war and combined in a collection entitled “I Never Saw Another Butterfly.” This play is based on that collection.

Aces Wild Taming of the Shrew Summer

Internet2 is a consortium being led by over 190 universities working in partnership with industry and government to develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies. CSUH, UC Irvine, and USC, will be providing the “motion capture” portion of the evening. Dancers in both Hayward and Los Angeles will be videoed and computer analysis of the motion will be done. That information will be used for control of music and sounds. A story will be adapted from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar portrayed in dance, music, and internet streaming audio and video.
