Adobe: Of Dirt & Community
The Museum of Mud opened in 2019 and is dedicated to highlighting traditions and technologies related to mud and mud-brick construction. The inaugural exhibition, "Adobe: Of Dirt and Community," places a spotlight on the beauty and complexity of mud constructions such as adobe houses and ovens, as well as the cultural significance of adobe in the West.
The gallery operates in conjunction with the Pacific Earthen Architecture Research Laboratory or PEARL, a campus research laboratory dedicated to experimental construction of earthen technologies. The PEARL attempts to better understand the technology involved and aids contemporary adoberos (mud-brick construction specialists) in efficient construction.
