Seasons of the Kachina
Kachina Ceremonies
Kachinas, in the Hopi worldview, are manifestations of both the physical and spiritual world. The kachina dolls pictured on this site are representations of their spirit counterparts, who live in the peaks of the nearby San Francisco mountains. The kachina spirits visit the mesas between December and July, and take part in a number of ceremonies.
The links below give you a glimpse into the seasonal kachina cycle. Each link shows you a doll representing one of the main kachinas in that month's seasonal ceremonies.
- December - Soyala Kiva Dances
- January - Pamuya Kiva Dances
- February - Powamu Bean Dance
- March - Aniktioni Repeat Dances
- April-May - Soyohim Plaza Dances
- July - Niman Home Dance
