Peoples of the Philippines
A Presentation of the C. E. Smith Museum's Krone collection
In the 1970s, the museum received a substantial donation of fine articles crafted and used by a diverse cross-section of Filipino cultural groups. This virtual exhibition, created by photographing the collection, is intended in part to provide an introduction to the Philippines, and an educational experience, but is also meant as an open-ended knowledge base to be augmented with new information as it is encountered We hope to enhance our understanding of the items in our collection, and the general knowledge base concerning the diverse group of peoples in the Philippines. If you have a contribution or correction, please do not hesitate to contact us!
Many cultural groups in the Philippines go by a half dozen or more different names. We have generally used the names and spellings found on the map compiled in 1974 by Robert B. Fox and Elizabeth H. Flory. The Alphabetical Menu below shows various cultural groups and their locations and may be helpful for finding specific groups. Keep in mind that multiple paths may lead to the same information.
