Recreation and University Union - Proposed Fee Increases
Dear Campus Community,
During the fall term, I convened the Recreation and University Union Task Force to explore the feasibility of fee increases to correct urgent budget shortfalls and better support current and future operations of the Recreation and Wellness(RAW) and University Union(UU). The Task Force recommended that the campus pursue an alternative consultation process, pursuant to Executive Order 1102, to consult students about these proposed fees. To ensure the broadest consultation process possible, I have requested the Campus Fee Advisory Committee (CFAC) to pursue alternative consultation during the Spring 2023 semester. CFAC will oversee this process including developing a communication campaign and opportunities to inform and engage the campus community in a transparent and meaningful manner.
It has been proposed that beginning Spring 2024, the RAW Fee will increase from $97.50 to $147.50 and the UU Fee will increase from $82.50 to $132.50 per semester. These proposed fee increases will correct the current budget shortfall of these self-support entities and allow for programs and services that were originally intended by students when these fees were implemented.
Specifically, the proposed fee increases will allow for the following:
- fitness, outdoor, and intramural programming (refilling two dedicated full-time positions),
- increase in student jobs with competitive pay,
- activate a Concord fitness room and union space,
- upgrades to buildings that include student lounge space, gaming equipment, and fitness equipment,
- dedicated funding for maintenance of the facilities.
The alternative consultation process will provide students with opportunities to learn about the proposed fee increase and provide feedback. Various presentations will take place during the Spring term. You can learn more about the dates, times, and locations of these presentations and other details related to this activity by visiting the Alternative Consultation Website.
Sincerely yours,
Cathy Sandeen
President
